Crowdfunding often relies heavily on your social connections, but fundraising without social media is certainly still possible. In fact, a lot of people actually find success by using these direct methods of sharing instead. Here’s some alternative ways to share if you don’t have social media.

Text messages

Many people find success by sending a text message individually to each person as a one-on-one conversation rather than a group text. Try using a template for your essential message, but shape it to each individual. It should be clear to recipients that you’re reaching out to them personally. Remember to offer different ways to support you, like sharing your fundraiser over social networks, donating, or both!

Phone calls

This is a great way to connect with friends and family who may not be local. Before reaching out to your list of contacts, try creating a script or jot down the main points of your cause you want to get across. Why is it important to you? What is needed and how will your donations be used? By making your cause feel personal to whoever you’re calling, you could persuade more people to support you because they feel like part of your cause as well.

Emails

Emails are another great opportunity to share your fundraiser with a personal touch. Similar to a letter, they make it easier to go into a bit more detail, which can help persuade any readers on the fence. You can also get creative with the subject line to intrigue people about your cause.  For some ideas of what to say, check out this fundraising email template.

Ask a friend to share online

Try to identify any friends who have a following on social media, and ask if they would be open to sharing your fundraiser on your behalf.  To help them keep track of how much they’ve raised, you can also add them as a team member to your page.

Hang posters or hand out flyers

Use GoFundMe’s print a poster feature, to post your fundraiser in places around your neighborhood.  The flier will include a link to your fundraiser, so anyone who comes across it can navigate to your page.

Handwrite a letter

One way to make your first donors feel special is by writing them a personalized note with your fundraiser link and leaving it in their mailbox. Since writing notes can take time, this strategy is great to use at the beginning of your campaign to kick start your effort.

Seek out a community

Relationships are at the heart of fundraising, so it may be worth getting to know more people in your area if you’re having trouble finding donors.  Local Facebook or Meetup groups, religious organizations, sports clubs, and some online communities can be a great way to start building a community for your cause.

What are some other methods you’ve used to share outside of social media? Any creative tips for those who feel stuck?

Hey all, just a quick reminder that this community is primarily a space to share tips and advice with GoFundMe organizers like yourself.

Because all our members are trying to raise money for their own fundraisers, we ask that you avoid asking for donations or fundraiser shares in this space. Thanks!

Gofindme is a total scam. Nobody helps anyone else. Those that do get money are just be just laundering there own money...

Heya @HelpOaklandHomeless sorry if you’ve been struggling to raise funds– can I ask what sharing techniques you’ve tried so far? Sometimes it can also help to improve your fundraiser story. If you’re looking for feedback about yours, I’d recommend checking out our Swap Feedback section.

Sorry about that. Just dont know where to get help. I feel like nobody helps others. Unless its people they know. Everyone i know comes from poverty any rich people dont help others.

Hey I get being frustrated @HelpOaklandHomeless, no worries. And yeah it can be hard. For a lot of people on GoFundMe, they raise money from people they have connections to, whether co-workers, friends, or family.  It can be tough when you don’t have that type of support system to help build initial momentum. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

If I can suggest, do you want to make a post in Swap Feedback, and the community can help give ideas about how to improve your fundraiser and get the word out?

Hello. My family is in need of help with food, necessities, and our living situation with our toddler and doggy. Just started the page, https://gofund.me/0d0f3ab5 , and any tips would be grateful. I started a Facebook so far, not sure what else I can do to raise awareness about this page. Thank you ALL very much!

Hi @Tiffani Miller welcome! One tip I have is to try to explain to your readers why you’re asking for the amount that you are. For instance, if you need deposit and first month’s rent on an apartment, talk to people about the cost and how you arrived at the amount you’re trying to raise. After you feel like your fundraiser story is in a good place, I’d start by reaching out directly to people you know, to try and help build initial momentum.

Just joined, but dang it seems pretty hard for your post to get out there and noticed with or without social media help 😩

I felt the same way. It isn't easy asking strangers for money especially when you already down with the whole reason why  you gotta ask for help.

Me too. I'm always the one that jumps at the chance to help others. I'm terrible at asking for help so I never do. My fire seems selfish compared to most post I've read. I ended up donating most of my money before I wrote mine!😂 The thing is everybody needs help at different times for different reasons. I had a fire so I was kinda drawn to other fundraisers related to that. I also was saved by my dog so the other half went to doggy fundraisers. I believe it's not a contest and if anyone on FB wants to gossip or doesn't like it. F them! If you know you need help ask for it. I have little expectations but it can't hurt. Might even root out some real friends you didn't know cared.

Thank you so much for this information!

This is my second Fund Raiser and i just have no luck... Any ideas how could i reach out to people??

I've already missed a month of her chemo and all of her hair is gone now and our parents have both passed of cancer as well and she takes care of our 83 year old grandmother I really don't know what to do I've been waiting on my SBA loans to get redeposited cuz they went to the wrong account and during waiting on this my car was repoed because I couldn't pay my bills I just don't know what to do anymore anybody please help me how I can do this fundraiser and raise enough money to at least put a down payment on a car?

Thank you all it's amazing how some of the greatest people need some of the most help!
